The Lock in Heybridge
I visited The Lock at Heybridge in Essex to try out their Festive Afternoon Tea. Firstly what a wonderful venue The Lock is, such a scenic spot with stunning views and it made for such a tranquil and enjoyable afternoon. The Basin is where the Chelmer & Blackwater canal meets the tidal Blackwater estuary. There are lots of local walks that include waterfalls and locks to see near by, so The Lock makes for the perfect pit stop after a winter walk, so why not treat yourself to a festive afternoon tea!
The Festive Afternoon Tea Savouries
The Festive Afternoon Tea is great value at £35 for two people! The afternoon tea is served on a traditional cake stand. You get to choose two sandwiches from the festive selection on offer:
- Turkey, Stuffing and Tiptree Cranberry Sauce
- Sliced Beef, Rocket and Tiptree English Wholegrain Mustard
- Brie and Tiptree Cranberry Sauce
- Cheddar and Tiptree Red Onion Chutney
We opted for the Turkey and the Brie filling choice. Their bread is sourced from a local baker and it was incredibly fresh and soft, we opted for a mix of white and granary breads. The sandwiches were generously filled and the fillings were delicious. The Tiptree Chutneys and sauces are always very good. You can purchase a range of the Tiptree products at all the Tiptree Tea Rooms; from jams, sauces, chutneys and their liqueurs, along with a Christmas range including Christmas puddings and gift ideas during the festive season
The Sweet Stuff
The Festive sandwiches were accompanied by white chocolate and cranberry scones with clotted cream and of course, Tiptree Jam. These were absolutely amazing, served warm and with such a lovely flavour. They are always baked fresh in house each day so you really can’t go wrong with a scone at a Tiptree Tea Room!
Alongside your sandwiches and scones you receive a selection of festive sweet treats, we received:
- Christmas Pudding Cheesecake
- Cherry and Mixed Spices Torte
- Christmas Cake
- Mini Mince Pie
This was a great selection and the Christmas pudding cheesecake was particularly delightful! I really couldn’t fault our afternoon tea, and in such a lovely location, it made for a wonderfully festive afternoon!
Included in your afternoon tea are unlimited hot drinks.
